Hot on the heels of Squarespace raising $40 million in Series B funding, Weebly raises $35 million in Series C funding from existing investor Sequoia Capital and Chinese company Tencent Holdings Ltd. According to The Wall Street Journal the round valued the company at $455 million.
With the new support from Sequoia and Tencent ‘We will continue to build an empowering technology platform that helps people turn ideas or passions into scalable businesses,” CEO and co-founder of Weebly David Rusenko said.
Weebly is one of the most successful website builders. It is available in 12 languages and powers more than 20 million websites worldwide. It has been cash-flow positive since 2009, Rusenko said. The company doesn’t disclose its revenue.
By the way, have you already checked out their redesign? The brand-new Weebly is undoubtedly eye candy, but it seems to be somewhat Squarespace-ish (compare fonts, content layout, buttons and icons). This is just my observation :).
