Dollar bills are flying into the web design and publishing sector and signal a new era for many promising startups. Squarespace announced it had raised $40 million in Series B funding coming from growth equity investment firm General Atlantic, with managing director Anton J. Levy joining the site builder’s board of directors. This deal has upped Squarespace’s total outside funding to at least $78 million (previously, Squarespace raised $38 million in 2010).
The new funds will fuel a big expansion of the platform, scaling its design, development and infrastructure teams. At the moment Squarespace has 285 employees in New York and Dublin and serves hundreds of thousands of customers in 121 countries.
By the way, Squarespace is a Webby Award nominee. This year it has been nominated for four categories:
- Mobile Apps: Services & Utilities
- Best Home/Welcome Page
- Best Visual Design/Aesthetic
- Web Services & Applications
As a nominee, Squarespace is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award. Polls are open now through April 25. You can support Squarespace by casting a vote.
