SpaceCraft is a powerful website builder that offers setup and marketing services, created and maintained by a team that’s based in Austin, Texas. We’ve already had the pleasure of reviewing this web service, and today, we’re excited to bring you an interview with Daniel Cleveland, SpaceCraft search specialist who has been with the company since 2014.
SWB: SpaceCraft entered the highly saturated market of website builders in 2012. What were your aims at the start of this journey?
Daniel: SpaceCraft was started with the simple idea to help our customers build beautifully effective websites. We wanted to create affordable tools that anyone can use to build a powerful web presence – everything from getting a website live on the web to getting discovered within search engines. We’ve been rethinking how websites are built and managed ever since.
SWB: Have those aims changed, or what additional aims have you adopted, perhaps in response to evolutions within the industry?
Daniel: In the last four years, technology and design have changed, and our platform has adapted with those changes. However, our goal to serve our customers and help them build beautiful websites that can rank well on search engines has not changed. Early on we realized that we needed to offer extremely affordable creative services to small business owners.
A lawyer, doctor, gym or restaurant owner does not necessarily have the time to design a website even if it is the easiest thing in the world to do. We wanted to make the process of building a website take weeks rather than months. We can offer such competitive pricing because of how our tool is designed to streamline website building. In line with our goals to help our customers create, manage, and promote their websites, we have started to offer search services which include search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM). These services were requested by our customers to help optimize their business’ online promotion activities and make sense as an extension of SpaceCraft’s team.
SWB: Recently, you released a new SpaceCraft experience. Tell us a little bit about that.
Daniel: The new SpaceCraft platform launch was a year and a half in the making and was our biggest release yet. We implemented a new modern look, powerful design tools, improved account management, mobile optimized (responsive) editing, and much more.
All of these features were released to all existing and future SpaceCraft websites without any need for manual updates. The new platform also opens up the opportunity to release more frequent updates that our customers have been requesting. We’re very excited to release dozens of new features during the remainder of 2015 and moving forward into 2016.
SWB: 2015 was a good year for your company. SpaceCraft was named in Top 50 Austin Startups to Watch in 2015. What do you think makes SpaceCraft successful?
Daniel: Thanks for mentioning that! We’re definitely proud to be included on this list. Behind the platform itself is our fantastic team of developers, designers, and specialists. Without this highly skilled team SpaceCraft definitely wouldn’t be where it is today and we wouldn’t be able to provide the level of service that our customers have come to love. A big and well deserved thank you to our team!
SWB: What’s the most underrated feature of SpaceCraft?
Daniel: The SpaceCraft design panel allows for infinite options and creativity. While our templates make it easy to get started with a great looking design, the design panel offers options that allow both website owners and professional designers to really dig in and make a website their own. And best of all, this is all included in an easy to use, intuitive interface.
As a search professional, I also have to mention that I love SpaceCraft’s built in SEO features. The SpaceCraft platform is built from the ground up with SEO in mind, and uses structured data based on Schema.org principles that help your site rank well in search engines with minimal effort.
SWB: What do you consider the biggest weakness of SpaceCraft?
Daniel: The SpaceCraft platform was originally developed for small business owners who needed a place to showcase their business online. Blogging capabilities were built in, but the functionality is not as robust as we would like it to be. There are many bloggers who use SpaceCraft to successfully publish and manage their blog posts. However, now that we have launched the new SpaceCraft platform, we are working towards improving our blogging features to allow for better ease-of-use.
SWB: What are your favorite SpaceCraft sites? Do you have a SpaceCraft-based website?
Daniel: One of the great things about SpaceCraft is that it is suitable for businesses of all types. So many great sites are built on SpaceCraft, so it’s difficult to pick favorites. However, I definitely like the Austin Trail of Lights website for its unique design. And besides, who doesn’t love the holiday season? Odd Duck has done a great job of using full screen images to show off their restaurant and food. Another great website is Fit4Mom. They have used color and imagery to create a fun, vibrant, and engaging website.
As far as my own website, I moved MyShedHome.com to SpaceCraft from WordPress and have loved the flexibility of the platform in addition to its innate ability to improve SEO.
SWB: Can you tell us anything about what your team has in store for the coming months?
Daniel: The newly re-launched platform opens the door to new innovations and feature releases for SpaceCraft. We have a busy schedule of feature releases, including image enhancement tools, image gallery features, organizational management tools for franchises or users with multiple websites, and white labelling for resellers. We’re very excited about these releases, and are hard at working getting them ready for launch.
SWB: Thank you for your time today, Daniel!
Daniel: On behalf of the entire SpaceCraft team, thank you! We’re grateful to be included on SuperbWebsiteBuilders.com and hope that we can provide a valuable service to your site visitors.
